This album is part of the recordings Giulio Cesare Ricci made for the concerts of the first edition of the fonè Music Festival Piaggio 2019.
The concerts organized by Giulio Cesare Ricci took place at the Piaggio Auditorium located inside the famous Pontedera Museum, the place where Piaggio was born and where it continues to produce today.
Inside the Museum, every year, audiences from around the world can admire Piaggio's production over the years, all the Vespa and Ape models, and all the Aprilia, Gilera, and Moto Guzzi motorcycles that have won national and international awards over time.
For each recording, Giulio Cesare Ricci brought all his equipment, both analog (Ampex ATR 102 Electronic Tube Ampex Model 351-1965, 2 tracks, 1/2 inch, 30fps modified by David Manley) and digital (Pyramix Recorder, dCS A/D and D/A converters).
For microphones, he used his original collection of Neumann U47, U48, and M49 mics, as well as a Signoricci mic preamp and cables.
This is because Giulio Cesare Ricci always created two masters for each recording: an analog master for vinyl and a DSD digital master for SuperAudioCD.
For this recording, he also used a "field effect" recording technique, producing a natural sound, without the use of equalizers, expansion, or compression systems... all this to bring the listener back to their home hi-fi system, a live effect as if they were present at the concert.
This album features Julian Mazzariello on piano and Enzo Pietropaoli on double bass.
These two great jazz musicians have played and recorded many albums together, but this is the first time they've performed as a duo.
Frankly, calling them a duo is an understatement, as they sounded like a single instrument in every song they played.
The artists alternated international repertoire, highlighting two songs by Cole Porter, "Solo una di quelle cose e mi concentra su te" (Only one of those things and I concentrate on you); the only Italian song on this album is "Dalle radici" by Eduardo De Crescenzo.
Their interpretation and the dialogue that each time "wove" between the two instruments was truly magical, a total fusion of timbre, music, and interpretation... a masterpiece!
The natural fonè sound fully enhanced the full sonority of the two instruments.
Every listener, closing their eyes, will be able to relive the emotion of the live performance as if they were present at the performance of these two great artists.
