This album was recorded in the ancient Palazzo di Scoto di Semifonte in Certaldo Alto (Florence). For this recording, Giulio Cesare Ricci used the legendary original Neumann U47, U48, and M49 tube microphones. Mastering was done using the all-analog, tube-based Signoricci system. The master was created with the Ampex ATR 102, 2 tracks, 1/2 inch, 30 ips. "As no editing has been done, all the tracks on this record are heard as they were performed." The program chosen for this album is particularly sophisticated, and this makes it attractive. Alongside standards that are part of Scott Hamilton's more usual and familiar repertoire, the American saxophonist has conceived pieces that are more unusual for him but congenial to the duo (Scott Hamilton on sax, Paolo Birro on piano), who interpret them with heartfelt and inspired interpretation. We find a rarely heard ballad like "If I'm Lucky," masterpieces from musicals like "That's Entertainment" (from "The Band Wagon" in 1953) and "You're Gonna Hear From Me" from 1965, written by the recently deceased renowned pianist and conductor André Previn. Finally, two pieces by great instrumentalists/composers in the history of jazz, "Day Dream" by Billy Strayhorn and "Funkallero" by Bill Evans. An album not to be missed!
