Remastered and first time on Vinyl. The all-acoustic Goin' Way Back was recorded in a single afternoon in a Montreal rooming house during a 1967 Canadian tour. In between shows, Muddy and his band gathered in a living room, armed only with acoustic guitars, for a spirited walk through their collective blues memory. An interesting side-note is that legendary pianist Otis Spann is confined exclusively to guitar here, as are the other members of Muddy's group. Goin' Way Back is a unique, appealing snapshot of the acoustic Delta roots that the Chicago blues godfather never abandoned.

    Steeped in history

Fantastic thing. In 1967, a Canadian fan asked Muddy and a few people in his band to come by and record a few songs. Muddy plays side 1, side 2 is sung by Otis Spann (on guitar) and Luther "Snake" Johnson. Rare opportunity to hear the master in such a setting. The sound isn't as dignified as on "Folk Singer", but the mood and intensity on this record is special. It's a shame there aren't more records like this... Little Walter in a duo with Otis Spann would be such a dream record. But Muddy and Friends is great.
