Jimi Hendrix was arguably the most innovative guitarist to come out of rock music. Rooted in soul, blues and rock 'n' roll, he improvised like a jazz musician, using an arsenal of effects. His second album with The Jimi Hendrix Experience, consisting of bassist Noel Redding, drummer Mitch Mitchell and Hendrix himself, was a resounding success. On 'Axis: Bold As Love', Hendrix, who had never written a song and rarely sang before his time in England, paints cosmic worlds in dazzling songs that combine his passion for fantasy with haunting melodies.
Manager Chas Chandler and sound engineer Eddie Kramer were once again the team behind the scenes for the 1967 recording at London's Olympic Studios, with Bernie Grundman remastering the analogue tapes for Analogue Productions. The hybrid SACD contains both the stereo and mono mixes, the CD track contains the stereo mix. Includes a 36-page booklet with liner notes by Jym Fahey.
