Make yourself comfortable in the front row of the New York Jazz Club's Top of the Gate! The recording captures two complete sets of the Bill Evans Trio with bassist Eddie Gomez and drummer Marty Morell on 23. October 1968 in Art D'Lugoff's legendary club.
On two 45 RRPM LPs, the private atmosphere of the evening comes over atmospherically, the recording quality literally lets the listener sit on stage. Through the clever microphone placement, the audience conversations commonly used for the time are kept in the background, the focus is on the great play of the young founded trio. The musicians had just found themselves, but the chemistry is already absolute; no wonder that a years of collaboration followed. Evans fans can look forward to early recordings of some classics from his repertoire, mastered on Nagra Equipment by René La Flame.
