It's not all "quiet" on "Quiet Kenny," which includes much of Dorham's best playing. Casual, unobtrusive yet haunting, with a melodic and subtle swing, the former trumpeter of the Charlie Parker Quintet and the Jazz Messengers shows that he was one of the greats on his instrument. Fine ballads like "My Ideal" and "Alone Together" or the legendary "Lotus Blossom" get a well-deserved stage on this 33 1/3 LP thanks to the remastering by Kevin Gray. "Quiet Kenny" is part of a series of prestige audiophile stereo reissues honoring the recordings of recording genius Rudy Van Gelder.
