    Superb

Posted by Neil on 10th May 2022

What an awesome set of line ups! - amongst others Tony Williams, Steve Swallow, Carla Bley, Larry Corryell, and of course Michael Mantler himself on trumpet.... and believe me they deliver. These instrumental compositions by Michael Mantler are quirky, intelligent, impassioned, complex, blistering, moody, tonally adventurous, virtuosic and often groovy in a demented complex time signature kind of way. This is real thinking meets feeling music impeccably played. At around 78 mins the disc is crammed full of interesting compositions. Very highly recommended.

    What? Nobody mentions Philip Catherine?

Posted by Sven on 10th May 2022

As I read the other reviews I kept seeing the names of greats like Carla Bley, Tony Williams and Steve Swallow...but nobody mentioned that half of this cd is has the participation of Philip Catherine on electric guitar. And as much as I like Coryell (especially in this Mantler project), Catherine's playing is more adventurous and entertaining to me.
