When America released their self-titled debut album in the US in January 1972, few could have guessed how perfectly this young trio would capture the sound of an entire era. With shimmering acoustic guitars, golden harmonies, and songs that seemed tailor-made for open highways and endless expanses, America became one of the most influential folk-rock albums of the 1970s. From the instantly recognizable guitar riff of “A Horse With No Name” to the melancholic beauty of “I Need You” and “Sandman,” this is the album that launched the band's career and set the tone for the laid-back West Coast sound of the decade. It's an album that feels both intimate and expansive, full of youthful enthusiasm and timeless melodies. “America” earned the band a Grammy Award for Best New Artist, went multi-platinum, and remains a milestone for generations of songwriters and listeners alike. Collectors continue to value the early pressings for their warmth and musicality – and now this definitive audiophile edition delivers the album with more depth, detail, and realism than ever before: every guitar note, every breath of harmony, every heartbeat of chemistry between Dewey Bunnell, Gerry Beckley, and Dan Peek is rendered with breathtaking clarity. “America” is a milestone of early 70s acoustic rock. Timeless magic, lovingly revived!
As part of its “Acoustic Sounds 40 Series,” Analogue Productions is now honoring this classic album with a collectible double LP: pressed on 180-gram vinyl by industry leader Quality Record Pressings (QRP), cut at 45 RPM and housed in a luxurious tip-on gatefold jacket by Stoughton Printing.
