Astrud Gilberto : Look To The Rainbow - SHM Single Layer SACD

“Look To The Rainbow” is one of the greatest gems in Astrud Gilberto’s repertoire and in the bossa nova canon. In collaboration with Gil Evans and producer Creed Taylor, the orchestral accompaniment perfectly complements Astrud Gilberto’s inimitable, whispering, and understated voice. With the exception of “Learn To Live Alone” and “Pretty Place” (Lugar Bonito), which were arranged by Al Cohn, all the arrangements are by Gil Evans, who poured his entire expertise into the bossa nova classics by Antonio Carlos Jobim, Baden Powell, and Carlos Lyra – to name just a few.

“Look To The Rainbow” was recorded on November 22, December 6, 10, and 23, 1965, and February 4, 1966, at Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. Unfortunately, the musicians were not credited by name. There is no individualistic soloing, and the entire album is based exclusively on the orchestra led by Creed Taylor – with the exception of the saxophone or a trumpet solo by Johnny Coles.

The limited edition Japan SHM-SACD (Single Layer) comes in a mini LP cardboard sleeve with OBI stripe, making “Look To The Rainbow” an absolutely collectible disc!

This title is an SHM SACD. This format is the further development of the single-layer SACD and uses a particularly light-transparent plastic (Super High Material). It allows a much better readability of the pit-land structures on the surface than is possible with hybrid SACDs. Universal's SHM SACDs are generally re-digitized to DSD from the albums' master tapes without any changes. SHM SACDs can be played on any SACD player.
