Chet Baker and Paris are two names that, when combined, inspire enthusiasm in jazz lovers. The trumpeter with the melancholy sound and the city of love seemed made for each other when Baker recorded the first of a total of three albums there, all of which have long been considered classics. The session at Studio Pathé-Magellan (October 24, 1955) for “Chet Baker Quartet – In Paris, Vol. 2” took place just three days after the tragic death of the young, brilliant pianist Dick Twardzik and presents the young French pianist Gérard Gustin and the Swiss drummer Bert Durrander, who together with Baker and Jimmy Bond (bass), form the new quartet. The magnificent recording, with its focus on well-known standards, movingly captures Baker's grief at the loss of his friend.

To mark the 95th anniversary of Chet Baker, Universal Music Japan is presenting the legendary jazz legend's Paris recordings as high-resolution SHM-SACDs (non-hybrid). The limited Japanese imports were lovingly mastered from the original tapes, offering excellent sound quality of the mono recordings and revealing new facets of the ingenious US musician's playing. The legendary Paris recording sessions for Barclay all took place between 1955 and 1956, during Baker's first European tour.

This title is an SHM SACD. This format is the further development of the single-layer SACD and uses a particularly light-transparent plastic (Super High Material). It allows a much better readability of the pit-land structures on the surface than is possible with hybrid SACDs. Universal's SHM SACDs are generally re-digitized to DSD from the albums' master tapes without any changes. SHM SACDs can be played on any SACD player. Please do not use L'Art du Son or alcohol-based cleaning agents. - Please note: All titles are designed by Universal Music as limited edition collector's items for the Japanese market.
