Among the many violin pieces that Giulio Cesare has recorded with Salvatore Accardo in recent years, another masterpiece of the violin repertoire cannot be missed: the Sonatas and Partitas of J.S. Bach.
It is worth noting that Salvatore Accardo performed Sonatas I, II, III, and Partita III on the "Hart" Stradivarius, while he performed Partitas I and II on the "Giorgio III" Maggini violin.
...an absolutely benchmark performance.
Giulio Cesare Ricci chose a medium-sized church as the recording location, the parish church of the Capuchin monastery in Peccioli (near Pisa), whose acoustics are a perfect match for the music of J.S. Bach.
Another special feature of this version of the album is that Accardo reproduced the complete version, so Giulio Cesare Ricci had to release the project on two SACDs instead of one.
For the original recording, Giulio Cesare used the legendary Neumann U47, U48, and M49 tube microphones.
Recorded in DSD stereo on a Pyramix recorder with dCS A/D and D/A converters.
A state-of-the-art system recorded without any sound manipulation, without equalization, without reverb, without compression or expansion of the sound... just a natural sound with true timbre.
The combination of Bach's music and Maestro Accardo's interpretation creates a sonic marvel of unique purity and expressiveness. This exclusive recording overwhelms us with raucous fugues and envelops us with dreamy adagios.
The Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin are admirably complex, perhaps designed for a virtuoso of his time, and display an abstract perfection and flawless polyphony befitting the violin's strings.
A true gem in the discography, a unique interpretation.
