A wonderful live album: “Getz Au Go Go” was recorded on two evenings in New York: on May 22, 1964, at the Café Au Go Go in Greenwich Village and on October 9, 1964, at Carnegie Hall. Produced by Creed Taylor, the album was released on Verve in mid-December 1964 – just two months after Astrud Gilberto's huge success with “The Girl From Ipanema.” It was not too surprising that “Getz Au Go Go” immediately entered the top five of the pop charts, because the program of these two concerts did not consist of pieces with Brazilian flair and rhythms, but rather the great Astrud sang a series of pieces whose style was more similar to North American genres. An incredibly talented band was hired to accompany Gilberto: the young vibraphonist Gary Burton, guitarist Kenny Burrell, double bassist Gene Cherico and drummer Joe Hunt, with the latter two being replaced by Chuck Israels (bass) and Helcio Milito (drums) on some tracks.

To mark the 70th anniversary of Verve Records, Universal Music Japan is releasing a new series presenting the legendary catalog of the renowned label in impressively mastered, high-resolution sound quality. The limited edition Japan SHM-SACD (Single Layer) comes in a mini LP cardboard sleeve with OBI stripe, making Stan Getz' “Getz Au Go Go” an absolutely collectible disc!

This title is an SHM SACD. This format is the further development of the single-layer SACD and uses a particularly light-transparent plastic (Super High Material). It allows a much better readability of the pit-land structures on the surface than is possible with hybrid SACDs. Universal's SHM SACDs are generally re-digitized to DSD from the albums' master tapes without any changes. SHM SACDs can be played on any SACD player. Please do not use L'Art du Son or alcohol-based cleaning agents. - Please note: All titles are designed by Universal Music as limited edition collector's items for the Japanese market.
