April 10, 1970: The legendary Fillmore West in San Francisco, California is packed to the rafters. The reason: the Grateful Dead are performing in their hometown and... the newly formed Miles Davis band is opening for them! A memorable spring evening for all "Deadheads", saxophonist Steve Grossmann, bassist Dave Holland, keyboarder Chick Corea, drummer Jack DeJohnette, percussionist Airto Moreira and the grandmaster himself. The concert took place shortly after the release of "Bitches Brew" and attentive observers of Davis's discography at the time might have suspected that the performance by Miles and his fellow musicians would once again turn all common notions of jazz upside down.

And so it came to pass: originally released only in Japan in 1973, "Black Beauty: Miles Davis At Fillmore West" is a true jazz-rock album with an experimental approach – a contemporary document from the beginnings of Miles' incipient electric jazz period. Groove, improvisation and a sense of adventure from a band in an overwhelming playing mood – this fascinating live album, whose pieces "Miles Runs The Voodoo Down", "Willie Nelson", "I Fall In Love Too Easily", "Sanctuary, "It's About That Time", "Bitches Brew", "Masqualero", "Spanish Key" and "The Theme" were played as one long track.

Mobile Fidelity's numbered special edition double LP has been lovingly processed from the master tapes and presents "Black Beauty: Miles Davis At Fillmore West" for the first time in an unheard reference sound that scores with fascinating richness, attention to detail and dynamics. The new edition was manufactured by Fidelity Record Pressing in California on 180-gram vinyl, cut at 33 RPM and comes in a luxurious Stoughton Printing gatefold cover.
